Why you were here? I have. I’ve never contributed to anything, or made any difference. I’ve made so many mistakes, I must be a disappointment to others. Maybe, I was just a mistake in the first place and maybe no one will miss me if I am gone.
I’ve thought that from time to time. I’m a screwup! That’s what I have thought. When I made that mistake back when…when I said this to that person I wish I wouldn’t have…I wish I would have done this different and that different…and on and on it goes.
You know what? I’m not a mistake though. Why do I think that?
Because I know there is God, and if God created me, I cannot be a mistake. Why not you ask?
In the Bible, Psalm 139:13 reads:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14) I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; you works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (NIV version, biblegateway.com)
Ok, so, this Psalm says “you knit me together in my mother’s womb”. So if God knit me together before I was even born, what does that say?
I love to crochet. It is so fun to take a piece of yarn and just move my hands and create something all my own that others can wear, enjoy, look at. My works can sometimes come out so colorful and fun to look at and if I purposefully sat down to look at this work, and purposefully thought about my pattern, my hook size, my yarn thickness, I know when I am done, I am going to love what I have made. Even when I have missed a stitch or two while making it. Is that a mistake? I used to think of them that way. No, not mistakes. Character. I tend to keep everything for myself that deviates from the original pattern. I love the differences that exist with those that have character.
So if we think about what God is, the creator of the universe, then we know, mistakes are not possible if He is our creator also. He, who handcrafted us within our mother’s womb.
Oh, maybe you don’t think of God that way? Maybe you don’t think there is a creator of the universe. That’s okay my friend. God knows this also. He hasn’t forgotten you, even if you don’t acknowledge Him. He still created you. You don’t have to acknowledge Him. He knows who you are. I hope you do see and acknowledge Him though. He is giving you time. Time here, on Earth. He has patience. So much patience. He didn’t make you as a mistake though. Whether you acknowledge Him or not, you are not a mistake.
Know this, my friend. Heaven anticipates that day you do acknowledge Him. God provided Jesus to lead those who could not see Him there. Directly to Him, through His own Son! That’s huge. How do I know that Heaven anticipates you acknowledging God through Jesus? How do I know?
The Bible tells us when someone loses a sheep and goes to find it, they will rejoice because that one lost sheep was found. In Luke 15:7 the Bible says:
“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent” (NIV, biblegateway.com)
So, my friend, I know from these scriptures, that no matter what our pasts have in them, no matter how many mistakes we’ve made, no matter how many ways we think we don’t matter, we do. We were made with joy, with purpose, and with repentance and acknowledgement, we are found. That means no matter what, we will be welcomed home with open arms, with a party probably. With joy. Does that mean we are a mistake? I don’t think so.
